Community Foundation of Des Moines County Awarding $20,150 in Grants to Sixteen Community Organizations.
Burlington, IA – Wednesday, October 2nd, 2019 - The Community Foundation of Des Moines County is pleased to announce its 2019 grant recipients for the Marvin R Mickelson Fund & Margaret Hansen Community Impact Fund. This year the CFDMC awarded $20,150 to sixteen organizations. A grant ceremony for the Marvin R Mickelson Fund will be held Wednesday, October 2nd 2019 at 11 AM in the Greater Burlington Partnership Office – 610 N. 4th Street Suite 200 in Burlington. Press is invited to attend.
The following are the organizations receiving grants as well as the corresponding amounts.
From the Marvin R. Mickelson Fund:
$3,850 to the Messiah Lutheran Church
$3,850 to the Red Cross, South & Eastern Iowa Chapter
$3,850 to the Burlington Public Library
$450 to Kayla’s Cupboard for food bank
$450 to Zion Church for food bank
$450 to St. Vincent DePaul for food bank
$450 to Salvation Army for food bank
$450 to The Next of Des Moines County for food bank
$450 to First Presbyterian Church for food bank
$450 to West Burlington Christian Church for food bank
$450 to Community Action of Southeast Iowa for food bank
From the Margaret Hansen Community Impact Fund:
$1,500 to City of Burlington Healthy Neighborhoods Program
$1,000 to Bridges Out of Poverty Corners Academy
$1,000 to Burlington Area Homeless Shelter
$1,000 to City of Burlington Riverfront Beautification project of choice: amphitheater, splash pad or shade structure
$500 to Bridges Out of Poverty Book of the Month Club
The main purposes of the Community Foundation of Des Moines County are to build community endowments, be a resource for a broad range of community needs (arts and culture, education, health and human services, historic preservation, etc.) and to assist donors by offering a variety of giving options.

Community Foundation of Des Moines County Awards $19,100 in Grants to Eight Community Organizations.
Burlington, IA – Tuesday, September 25, 2018 - The Community Foundation of Des Moines County is pleased to announce its 2018 grant recipients for the Marvin R Mickelson Fund & the Margaret Hansen Community Impact Fund. This year the CFDMC rewarded $19,100 in grants to eight community organizations. The following are the organizations receiving grants as well as the corresponding amounts.
From the Marvin R. Mickelson Fund:
$3,825 for the Messiah Lutheran Church
$3,825 for the Red Cross, South & Eastern Iowa Chapter
$3,825 for the Burlington Public Library
$1,912.50 for the Young House Family Services to be used for either domestic violence prevention or to be used for providing meals to the less fortunate.
$1,912.50 for the Burlington Area Homeless Shelter to be used for feeding the less fortunate.
From the Margaret Hansen Community Impact Fund:
$1,500 for the Healthy Neighborhoods Program, City of Burlington which is designed to improve the aesthetic appeal of our neighborhoods.
$1,500 for the Dankwardt Pool Bubble, Southeast Iowa Swim Club, Inc.
$800 for the Corners Academy at SCC
“These are great organizations that are making a notable difference in our community. We are fortunate to have them and greatly appreciate their good efforts.” Said Bob Bartles, Board Chair of the Community Foundation of Des Moines County.

Come join us at our ANNUAL gathering to donate $100 to the Margaret Hansen Community Impact fund. These are tax deductible donations made to the Community Foundation of Des Moines County. We hope to donate a minimum of $10,000 per year to raise the endowed amount so that the interest distributed annually can truly make an impact in our community.
